This morning saw the lads make their regular Wednesday pilgrimage to the base of Mt Cootha something we kind of look forward to in a mildly sadistic way. As we did Dammo was busy trying to work out how many Wednesdays there are between now and 3 September when we depart for Townsville (the answer Dammo is 9!!) while the rest of us were trying to wake up and not think about the climbing ahead.
As we started up the first part of the climb Dammo asked if we were keen on something a little different which got us all wondering what he had in mind.
A few weeks ago Brad said that he had heard that if you do sets up the back way of Cootha it was good training (not sure which cycle mag he had been reading but he seemed convinced this was a good idea). Dammo put out the challenge to give Brad's idea a go so off to the back side of Cootha it was.
The sets involved riding 250m up and then back down 500m up and then down 1 km up and then back down. This equated to one set and Dammo had us do 2 sets followed by a final 500m effort to finish the session off. While we all whinged a bit it was a good training ride and certainly something a little different for a Wednesday morning.
Tomorrow is our rest day before we get back into four big days of training.
Oh yeah the quote of the day belongs to Brad. Apparently it is his wife's birthday today so he took her out for a romantic dinner last night and after finishing the last effort on Cootha a little behind the other lads he was heard to say:
"I know my effort this morning fellas was a bit substandard but boy you should have seen me last night!!!"
Our response.....Brad you need to bring your "A game" to the hills mate and not keep it for home big guy!!
